Royalty refers to queens, kings, princes and princesses. Nobility refers to anyone with a title such as Lord/Lady, Duke/Duchess, Count/Countess, etc. Knights are not part of the nobility. Gentry were the rich land-owning classes. Knights ("Sir Suchandsuch") were considered part of the gentry, not the nobility. Middle class is a catch-all modern term encompassing merchants, prosperous freeholders, burgesses, and so on. Lower class is a catch-all modern term encompassing peasants, labourers, etc. |
